Welcome!

We are Salvavidas International, a group of young, adventurous medical professionals who all began, and still serve, as ocean lifeguards with a vision: to help make a dent in the number of drownings happening around the world. How, you ask? By helping to train and organize like-minded individuals within the local population of the areas we visit to form self-sustainable life saving programs. Sometimes we find that there are already people actively doing the job and we simply offer our assistance as Lifeguard Instructors to hone their skills. Other times, candidates for life saving have to be sought out and recruited. Always, we find people who are fed up with the unnecessary deaths caused by drowning who are grateful and willing to learn and make  a difference.

Our next project is centered around another trip to Lima, Peru, in December of 2008. We hope to raise/save enough money to send five people to work with the Association of Peruvian Lifeguards (ASP) in a focused effort to train and refine Peruvian lifeguard instructors. We feel that proficient instructors are vital to creating a sustainable lifesaving program. For video from our last trip, click here.

News Flash!

6/20/08

We have just received word that the peruvians are starting their own Volunteer Life Saving Corps, so to speak. Efforts are being made to outfit a group of ocean lifeguards with equipment and to begin guarding the beaches of Lima on Sundays, similarly to what the lifeguards in our hometown of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, do. Hopefully, this will evolve into a long-term sustainable lifesaving program similar to our ARCVLSC.
