Welcome!

We are Lifeguards Without Borders, a group of young, adventurous medical professionals who all began, and still serve, as ocean lifeguards with a vision: to help make a dent in the number of drownings happening around the world. How, you ask? By helping to train and organize like-minded individuals within the local population of the areas we visit to form self-sustainable life saving programs. Sometimes we find that there are already people actively doing the job and we simply offer our assistance as Lifeguard Instructors to hone their skills. Other times, candidates for life saving have to be sought out and recruited. Always, we find people who are fed up with the unnecessary deaths caused by drowning who are grateful and willing to learn and make  a difference.

Our latest project was centered around a focused effort to train and refine Peruvian lifeguard instructors. We feel that proficient instructors are vital to creating a sustainable lifesaving program. In addition to success of the class, we feel that we were able to foster an attitude of cooperation between two lifesaving agencies prone to competition. The future of Peruvian Lifesaving looks very bright as the Associación de Salvavidas Voluntarios de Peru and the Peruvian National Police continue to work together.
